Mar. 20, 2006
- Stover Racing recently returned from Norman
Oklahoma for the Stars of Karting Race of the
Americas. This was the season opener of the
2006 season that has Christian Stover picked
to be one of the front runners and eventual
championship contender in the JICA division
of the Stars
of Karting series.
With most of the weekend cold and wet, it would
prove to be a difficult outing for the General
Electric, Drew Ford, City-Wide Electronics and
Hi-Rev Engineering powered Tony
Kart. As Friday practice kicked off, Christian
found himself 21st out of the 59 drivers competing
in his class. Not satisfied with the handling
of his kart, Christian asked that several changes
be made between Friday practice and Saturday.
These adjustments proved to be a step in the
right direction as at the conclusion of the
Saturday morning practice, Christian emerged
the quickest driver in his class.
Qualifying did not go as well however and at
the end of the first lap the clutch drum broke
and Christian was unable to continue. With only
one lap complete, Christian would qualify a
dissapointing 50th. Forced to start in the back,
and in the rain, Christian was able to move
up steadily in the heat race but failed to make
the main event by one position. A last chance
race would be run on Sunday where it looked
good for Christian who would start in the second
position, but as the green flag fell a driver
from another team ran into the back of Christian
going into turn one. This crashed him out of
contention to make the main event. "I guess
this was one of those character building weekends
my dad warned me about when we started racing.
While it was disappointing not to make the main
event, it was good to see that we were the quickest
kart when there were no mechanical failures
or drivers running over the back of us"
offered Christian.
The next race
for Stover Racing will be in Tucson, Arizona
on April 21
-23. Christian will be looking to capitalize
on a dissapointing opening weekend to come back
even stronger.
Christian Stover will also be in Sacramento
on April 8 - 9 for a Motorsports Mixer where
the 13 year old will be signing autographs and
selling memorabilia from the Stover Racing Collection.
